This blog is about my adventures in sustainable living and alternate energy sources. I’m a do-it-yourself kind of guy who tries to live a low impact life. I use solar to heat my water, bake my bread (among other things), dry my clothes, and provide some of my electrical power. I have a rain water collection system that provides all of my outdoor water needs.
Last fall (2013) I built an outdoor wood stove to heat my home. It turned out to be a dreadful winter, but I managed to heat my home for several months using only wood. I wasn’t really prepared for such a cold winter. Winters here in eastern North Carolina are generally pretty mild.
Some things I might talk about here:
- Solar electricity generation
- Solar water heating
- Solar space heating (air)
- Rain water utilization
- Arduino projects
- Computer software development
- Cooking with a SunOven
I believe that every living thing on this planet forms a delicate web of life. When we damage the ecosystem, on which all life depends, we are jeopardizing the very fabric of life that sustains us. I love this planet, and I want to protect it. You can call me a tree-hugger, or whatever you want, but we will never be able to replace the natural beauty that surrounds us, once it is gone. Furthermore, we will not survive as a species, if we do not develop a sustainable way of life.
